The precise order of amino acid residues that makes up a peptide chain. Sequence is one part of molecular identity and can influence structure and behavior in laboratory research models.
Analytical Purity
A method-specific reported estimate of the target compound relative to other detected signals in a sample. Review the applicable method, chromatogram, integration approach, and lot-specific report rather than treating purity as a catalog-wide constant.
BPC-157
Body Protection Compound-157. A 15-amino-acid synthetic peptide derived from a gastroprotective protein found in gastric juice. Widely studied in in vitro and animal research contexts. CAS number 137525-51-0. Available from ThePepLabs in lyophilized powder form for laboratory research use only.
Batch Number
An identifier assigned to a manufactured lot of material. When reviewing analytical documentation, confirm that the report's batch or lot identifier matches the material in hand.
CAS Number (Chemical Abstracts Service Registry Number)
A numerical identifier assigned by the Chemical Abstracts Service to a specific substance record. A CAS number can help disambiguate names, but it should be checked alongside sequence, salt or counterion, formulation, and other identity information where relevant.
Certificate of Analysis (COA)
A report describing a tested sample, the analytical method or methods used, and the reported results. Depending on its scope, a COA may include a lot identifier, HPLC data, mass-spectrometry data, dates, and laboratory information. Published reports are listed in The Pep Labs COA library when available.
CJC-1295
A synthetic 30-amino-acid peptide analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). Studied in research settings for its interaction with the GHRH receptor. Available in lyophilized form for in vitro laboratory research.
Chromatogram
A graphical output from HPLC analysis showing peaks that correspond to different compounds in a sample. The size of the target compound's peak relative to all peaks determines the purity percentage reported in the COA.
GLP-1 Receptor Agonist
A class of peptide compounds that bind to the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor. In research models, GLP-1 receptor agonists are studied for their roles in glucose homeostasis and metabolic signaling. Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are examples studied in this context.
GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice)
A system of manufacturing controls intended to support consistent production and quality. The meaning and regulatory status of a GMP claim depend on the product category, jurisdiction, facility, and documented scope.
GHRH (Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone)
A 44-amino-acid peptide hormone produced in the hypothalamus that stimulates GH secretion. Several research peptides, including CJC-1295, are structural analogs of GHRH studied in laboratory settings.
HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography)
An analytical technique used to separate components of a sample and measure their detector response under a defined method. HPLC can support a purity assessment, but the reported result depends on method suitability, sample preparation, detection, integration, and other stated conditions.
Ipamorelin
A pentapeptide (five amino acids) and selective ghrelin receptor agonist studied in in vitro and preclinical research. CAS number 170851-70-4. Available from ThePepLabs as a lyophilized powder for laboratory research.
In Vitro
Latin for 'in glass.' Research conducted in a controlled environment outside of a living organism — for example, in test tubes, petri dishes, or cell cultures. All compounds sold by ThePepLabs are intended exclusively for in vitro laboratory research and are not for use in humans or animals.
ISO/IEC 17025
The international standard specifying general requirements for the competence, impartiality, and consistent operation of testing and calibration laboratories. Accreditation should be verified for the issuing laboratory and the relevant scope when it is material to a report.
Lyophilization (Freeze-Drying)
A dehydration process in which frozen water is removed under reduced pressure by sublimation. Stability still depends on the specific material, residual moisture, packaging, temperature, light, and other storage conditions.
Mass Spectrometry (MS)
An analytical technique that measures mass-to-charge ratios of ions. It can support molecular-identity assessment when the observed data and method are appropriate, but it does not by itself establish chromatographic purity or every attribute of a sample.
Molecular Weight (MW)
The sum of atomic masses of all atoms in a molecule, typically expressed in Daltons (Da) or grams per mole (g/mol). Molecular weight is one of the key parameters confirmed in the mass spectrometry portion of a Certificate of Analysis.
Peptide
A short chain of amino acids linked by peptide bonds. Peptides typically contain 2–50 amino acids; longer chains are called proteins. Research peptides are synthetic compounds manufactured to study biological pathways, receptor interactions, and other phenomena in laboratory settings.
Purity
The percentage of the target compound reported by an analytical method such as HPLC. Purity is lot-specific; review the published lot documentation when available rather than relying on a catalog-wide assumption.
Reconstitution
A laboratory preparation step for lyophilized research material. Qualified laboratories should use validated institutional SOPs and lot-specific documentation; this glossary does not provide preparation, dosing, administration, or human-use instructions.
Research Use Only (RUO)
A regulatory designation indicating that a product is intended solely for laboratory and in vitro research purposes. RUO products are not approved by the FDA for diagnostic, therapeutic, or human/veterinary use. All ThePepLabs products are sold exclusively as RUO compounds.
Semaglutide
A GLP-1 receptor agonist peptide studied in preclinical and in vitro research contexts related to metabolic pathways. Available from ThePepLabs as a lyophilized powder for qualified laboratory researchers.
Sequence (Amino Acid Sequence)
See Amino Acid Sequence. The specific linear order of amino acids in a peptide chain, written using standard single-letter or three-letter codes.
Solid-Phase Peptide Synthesis (SPPS)
The standard method for manufacturing synthetic peptides. Amino acids are added one-by-one to a growing chain anchored to a solid resin. After assembly, the peptide is cleaved from the resin, purified by HPLC, and lyophilized. SPPS allows precise control over sequence and length.
Storage Conditions
The documented environment for preserving a specific material. Follow the product-specific label, lot documentation, and the receiving laboratory's validated procedures rather than applying a universal temperature or shelf-life assumption.
TB-500 (Thymosin Beta-4 Fragment)
A synthetic peptide fragment corresponding to amino acids 17–23 of the naturally occurring protein Thymosin Beta-4. Studied in laboratory and preclinical research contexts. CAS number 77591-33-4. Available from ThePepLabs as a lyophilized powder for in vitro research.
Third-Party Testing
Testing performed by a laboratory separate from the supplier or manufacturer. The report should identify the issuing laboratory, sample or lot, method, dates, and results so the scope of the work can be evaluated.
Tirzepatide
A dual GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) and GLP-1 receptor agonist peptide. Studied in metabolic and endocrine research settings. CAS number 2023788-19-2. Available from ThePepLabs as a lyophilized powder for qualified laboratory researchers.
Water Content
The amount of water reported in a sample under a stated method, such as Karl Fischer titration or loss on drying. A water-content result applies to the tested sample and should be interpreted against the relevant specification and method.
